SCRIPT FOR THE DRAMA

Act I

Mama Emeka (Imoko)    :     Darling

Papa Emeka (Okey)        :     Yes dear...

Mama Emeka (Imoko)    :     Have you seen Emeka today?

Papa Emeka (Okey)        :      No o! He has been in his room all day and has refused to come out.

Mama Emeka (Imoko)    :       Hey!!! Oh God please help us.

Papa Emeka (Okey)        :     Ehe, I wanted to tell you about a dream...

Act II

Just then Emeka walks into stage from the primate’s office intending to walk past his parents

Mama Emeka (Imoko)    :     Emi dear, where are you going?

Emeka (Ebele)                 :     Out... I’m going for a party.

Papa Emeka (Okey)        :     Emeka!!! Come back here.

Emeka (Ebele)                 :     Papa, don’t start now o! I don’t have your time now

Papa and Mama             :     Emeka!

Mama Emeka (Imoko)    :     Emeka!!

Papa Emeka (Okey)        :     Let him go dear. You see the only way Emeka can change is by the special intervention of God and I believe God’s time is the best.

Mama Emeka (Imoko)    :     How long do we have to wait?

Papa Emeka (Okey)        :     Don’t give up hope my dear, God is on the throne. I wanted to tell you about a dream I had before Emeka came in. I dreamt that I  was travelling on a very rough and dangerous road. I got to the end of the road and the whole region was covered in darkness. In the dark I saw three plants in a flower pot. These plants were dying from lack of light. I picked the pot up and carried it back up the road where there was light though it wasn’t easy but I didn’t give up till I got there. Just then I was awakened by a cock’s crow. What do you think of the dream?

Mama Emeka (Imoko)    :     I would say the dream...

Sound of breaking glass

Mama Emeka (Imoko)    :     Darling... did you hear that sound?

Act III

When mama is still worried about what happened... two guys in masks and holding cutlasses, catch them unawares and...

First Man (Jite )                 :     Shih! Don’t shout! If you shout, you die.

Third Man (Ebele)             :     Lie down, Lie down I say.

Second Man (Jabus)           :     Oya madam, stand up. Be a nice girl and show me where your money is.

Act IV

Second man leads mama out towards the primate’s office and returns carrying a Ghana-must-go bag

Second Man (Jabus)            :     Oya, (talking to mama Emeka) go and lie down. Ol boys, make we dey waka.

First Man (Jite )                   :     Nobody moves till we are gone

Act V

As they turn to leave... papa speaks up...

Papa Emeka (Okey)             :     Wait!

Third Man (Ebele)                :     Make we waka jo

Papa Emeka (Okey)             :     Don’t go, please wait.

Second Man (Jabus)             :     What is it? Speak up and it better be good

Papa Emeka (Okey)             :     (Papa Emeka changes position from laying to kneeling) It’s all clear now... the dream... three plants in one pot... three men in a gang... plants in the dark... three sinners and I have to lead them to the light.

Third Man (Ebele)                 :     Wetin this guy dey yarn sef? Make we dey go now

Second Man (Jabus)              :     Wait first, make the guy yarn finish

Papa Emeka (Okey)              :     Please don’t be offended but let me ask you, if you open the door to go out and the police is out there and they don’t wait for explanations and have you all killed... where do you think you would spend eternity? (There is a pause and the 1st and 2nd man sit down) I know you all know there is no escaping death. I also know all of you must have heard of Christ. You see when you have Christ, you are guaranteed of every good thing, when you have a problem you can tell it’s only for while. I know you might be touched by what I’m saying and you’ll tell yourself: "just once more then I’ll accept Christ". I tell you, no one knows tomorrow, you might never get the chance to accept him later. What if you die? The truth is there is no repentance in death. If you confess and forsake your sins and let Christ into your life, then and only then can you boast of your assurance of salvation.

Second Man (Jabus)               :     God please have mercy on me. (Kneeling)

First Man (Jite )                      :     And me too o! (Copying Second Man)

Third Man (Ebele)                  :     (removes his mask) what a great discovery and I foolishly refused to listen to your sermons. Papa, I’m sorry.

Papa falls on the ground on seeing Emeka and mama leans over him and she begins to weep and wail and Emeka squats over papa and nods his head continuously. There is a bang and everybody freezes and the narrator walks in and addresses the congregation.

Narrator (Nkem)                     :     Fellow people of God, we have a lot to learn from this playlet. First of all, Prov 22 vs 6 tells us that if you train a child in the way he should go, when he is old he would not depart from it. Emeka wasn’t brought up in the proper way that was why he lived a wayward life. Secondly, in Heb 11 the bible makes us understand that a couple of people received because they had faith and exercised patience. Emeka’s parents had faith that God would help Emeka and he was later saved. Finally, the last message has been preached a lot of times which is, you can experience true peace only when you have Christ in your life. Thank you.
