Brief History:

In 1996, the students who were just fresh from the secondary school didn't know what to do and most of them engaged in unholy acts. Later in August of that same year, the then Bishop of Abuja (present Primate of The Anglican Communion of Nigeria) summoned all the youths in All Saints church, Wuse, Abuja. He told them to build up a Christian atmosphere in which youths could express themselves, learn the bible together and relate with one another.

The youths (mostly students fresh out of secondary school), decided to form The Youth Star. They decided to meet every Wednesday at 4:00pm (1600 hours) at the All Saints Church Sunday School. The slogan for the group is, 'Shining for Christ'. Presently, a lot of things have changed; the Youth Star, in the Anglican constitution is represented as a subsection of The Anglican Youth Fellowship (A.Y.F.) which wasn't the original scheme. The Youth Star later met every Thursday at 4:00pm (1600 hours) instead of the former Wednesday schedule. As at this present day, the Youth Star meets fort nightly on Thursdays for Prayer Meeting tagged "In His Presence" at 4:00pm (1600 hours). The Youth Star also meets fort nightly on Saturdays for a programme tagged "Days of Our lives" at 3:00pm (1500 hours). "Days of our lives" is a programme in which special guests from any 'Christian' denomination come to give talk to Youth Star members on what they need to know in their every day living. The programme is also fun filled with dramas, song ministration etc.

The Youth Star has extended to many other Anglican churches. There is Youth Star in St. Bartholomew Anglican Church, Kubwa, The Cathedral Church of Advent, Gwarimpa and some other churches. The Youth Star plans to help in the propagation of gospel (which we have started) around the world by the special grace of God.

AIMS AND OBJECTIVES:

  • To create an environment where the youths could interact with each other and God as well.
  • To encourage liberty amongst youths
  • To reach out to young people who are either ignorant of or refuse to accept Christianity.
  • To help youths to understand the basis of their faith.
  • To promote unity amongst various church denominations as it readily welcomes youths of other churches.
  • It helps youths to break through obstacles that hinder them from using their gifts e.g. Singing.

Anthem:

The Youth Star has an anthem which we sing only at our anniversary celebration. There are three (3) stanzas and the first two (2) stanzas are solos, while the last stanza and chorus are sung by every member. The Anthem is song only in the dark with every member holding lit candles (what an adoration).

Youth Star Anthem (CANDLE SONG)

First Stanza:

There is a candle, in every soul

Some brightly burning, some dark and cold.

There is a spirit, who brings out the fire

It lights the candle and makes it whole.

 Chorus:

Carry your candle, run to the darkness

Seek out the hopeless, confused and torn

Hold out your candle, for all to see it

Take your candle, go light your world  - 2*

 Second Stanza:

Frustrated brother, see how he strives to

Light his own candle, some other way

See now your sister, she’s been robbed and lied to

Still holds her candle, without a flame

 Chorus

 Last Stanza:

We are a family, whose hearts are blazoned

Let’s raise our candles, light up the sky

Pray to our father, in the name of Jesus

Make us a beacon in darkest night

 Chorus
